"Although Sibelius may be nationalist by sentiment, he is not one for deliberation. He may feel his bond to his birth land but, he also showed a special fondness respect other latitudes. As a matter of fact his last works derived toward Shakespeare, Homer and Horace.
After having concluded his set of Symphonies you may realize how his tendency toward the introspectiveness was more than obvious. Since the Third Symphony it might be said he was deeply hovering by a thick atmosphere of contemplation, bucolic serenity, Pastoral approach and sheer exploration of the unconscious expressions.
In this sense I think to myself it's absolutely impossible to understand plainly the spirit of his three last Symphonies without having plunged in this memorable and mesmerizing String Quartets, one of the milestones string quartets of the Century XX.
The Schumann's string quartet is fine but there are better options in the market.
