Synopsis

Album Description
Showbread released two new albums on May 13th, 2008. Each with twelve completely different songs. One album is called Anorexia and the other is called Nervosa. These records are not conventional musical recordings. They are the soundtracks to a story called 'Anorexia Nervosa' which is split into two, ten chapter segments, one segment comes included with one record and the second comes with the other. As you read the story, the album acts as a musical accompaniment to the text. Musically, the sound is some of the most lush, organic as well as some of the most harsh, synthetic material we've ever done. It's sweeping and ominous, then jagged and screeching. The band's website reads 'This is the most exciting time for Showbread- we have completed our best work ever and God is preparing us to unleash it on the world.'

CD Reviews

Art rock at its finest.
Ramptor | New Jersey USA | 05/23/2008

"I bought this one and its companion, Nervosa, and I haven't even started on Nervosa yet because this one is so good. It shows a definite progression and maturity. It's not as spazz rock as their earlier self released efforts or "Nihilism" nor as poppy as "Reptiles". If you want more of the same, Showbread is not the band to listen to.

For those who don't know, Anorexia and Nervosa are envisioned as soundtracks to two stories about two sisters. Both want to leave the earth and have different ways of doing so. Anorexia builds a tower and Nervosa digs a hole. Make sure you read the stories as they are quite well written and very beautiful. The symbolism is pretty obvious, but the stories make their points very well.

As far as the music, wow. Showbread is SO diverse. They are just as comfortable playing slowly and sadly (NOT emo, mind you) as they are playing loud and fast. It is a travesty that corporate bands like Nickelback make it big while true talent like Showbread are largely unknown. Back to the music. It is meant to be a soundtrack to the story, and it does that job successfully. It really enhances the reading, if you decide to read along. If you don't want to, it's just really good heavy music.

Bottom line: if you like their other Tooth & Nail efforts, you'll like this. If you didn't, give it a shot anyway because these guys have really grown and I look forward to many more releases."

"This is an excellent album.

Buy the physical edition to get the intruiging storyline that accompanys it. Make sure to pick up the physical of Nervosa also.

It's definitley darker and heavier than Age of Reptiles.

Great album all the way through."
