CD Reviews

Pop dance music--but a bit pricey, even with bonus tracks

"Sherrie Lea's single "anyway" was treated to some good remixes by some big names, so I had high hopes for the bonus tracks on this disc. Unfortunately, the only one that clocked in over 4 minutes was the "chill out" mix of No Ordinary Love. The other mixes are good so it would have been nice to have longer versions--there's 20 unused minutes on the disc! Most of the tracks on here are light euro house, with a couple of songs that have a more edgy feel, bordering on trance, but not quite there. Aside from the cover of Sade's "No Ordinary Love" (there's an excellent mix on the compilation "Thrive Mix 1" that should have been on here!) there's also a cover of Allison Limerick's "Where Love Lives" and I have to ask myself, WHY??? That song is about as overrated a 'dance classic' as "I Will Survive," and Sherrie Lea's version does nothing to change the feel of the song...it sounds just as dated as the original from way back in the early 90s.

BUT, overall, if you like releases by Cher, Gioia, Tina Ann, Tina Cousins, and Becky Baeling, you're sure to enjoy this upbeat dance record that doesn't spoil itself with ANY ballads. It's ALL dance tracks! (except that annoying 6 minute chill out mix!) But do yourself a favor and grab it for half the price new from the Amazon Marketplace.

"Heard one of the songs while shopping at Abercrombie.com and went on line at Amazon.com and purchased it. What a great purchase...there were tons of songs on the cd that I have been hearing in DJ mixes in so many clubs!"

"I learned of Sherrie Lea on MySpace. When I bought this album, I was more than pleasantly suprised. While it's not pure dance like DJ Sammy, it's a bit lighter. The production, synthwork, and Sherrie's unique vocals on this album more than make up for it.

I'd have to disagree with the first reviewer, the chill out remix is great. It's rare that downtempo music doesn't fall into soft mushy R&B/Light Jazz/mushy New Age cliches. It just worked here.

I dont recommend going into this album expecting Cascada or DJ Sammy, on the other hand if your looking for something similar but different, with a lighter touch on the trance like dancebeats, and a unique vocalist that stands apart from the rest of the trance crowd, I recommend this."
