Synopsis

Album Description
Incantation is a visionary work that draws much inspiration from the music and traditions of the ancient Celts, yet remains refreshingly original. All songs are written by Ms. Knight and are presented in an evocative blend of driving rock and enchanting acoustic minstrelsy. The lyrics are gorgeous and lush, creating rich imagery in the mind, and Knight sings them passionately, in a voice that reflects perfectly the haunted yearnings so characteristic of Celtic culture. Instruments you will hear on "Incantation" include acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, keyboards, recorder, flute, and several drums. Strong pagan themes are woven throughout. Sharon's music comes from a place of soulful dedication to her muses, and this is a fine example.

CD Reviews

As Bardic as CD Can Get.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Having been familiar with Sharon Knight's work with Pandemonaeon and Walkabout, I had originally expected something similar with this album -- funky Pagan dance grooves, Middle Eastern trance percussion, and Sharon's fierce voice. Don't get me wrong; I got all of that and more. But what surprised me was the bardic quality of the disc. With Incantation, Sharon Knight has reclaimed the age old tradition of storytelling, and leaves her listeners spellbound with the intriguing stories behind the music. Anyone who gets chills from an old Irish tale will adore this CD, as will anyone who looks for those multi instrumental dance tunes fans of Knight's band work have come to love."
Interesting songs, voice very flat

"The song construction and lyrics are the best part of this CD. The vocals, I am sorry to say, are the least complimentary. Knight's voice is flat and at times harsh. I have listened to the CD several times in order to try to change my mind but have not. In my opinion, it would definitely be better as an instrumental CD. There is a lot of other goddess/pagan music I would recommend before this CD. Sorry!"
Great pagan vibe!

"Sharon Knight is amazing. Beautiful voice accompanied by wonderful music. If you like Loreena McKennit, you might like Ms. Knight--just keep in mind that her music has more of a driving beat and modern flavor than most of Ms. McKennit's. If you're looking for awesome music with a pagan flavor, you can't do better than this CD!"
