Jumped the shark- prelude to disaster
mitch | ct | 10/16/2008
(2 out of 5 stars)

"This is where sepultura actually began to jump the shark and ignore what they did best, which way straight ahead thrash. Not to say that bands cant progress and change styles, but this just did not work out for sepultura. Beneath and Arise were great thrash albums, they were never at the level of a prime Slayer but if they continued to play good fast heavy stuff and improve their songwriting things would have turned out better. This is not as obvious a decline as their next album Roots would be, but looking back you can see this had the makings of a change for the worse. A couple songs save this from an utter disgrace but the lyrics and songwriting are embarrassing bad on most of this material. Biotech is godzilla????? come on, this is corny stuff. Max sounds like he's trying to be punk and pissed but just cant master the english language enough to say anything close to intelligent. Sepultura idolized Metallica and I think this was their shot at the black album, although nowhere near has well written or accessible. If you must seek Sepultura, buy Beneath and Arise, thats it.."
