Synopsis

Album Description
Scott Matthew is a remarkably gifted Australian singer/songwriter based in NYC, blessed with an amazing voice of incredible power and emotive intensity (somewhere between Antony and Bowie). His debut album is purely magnetic, exposing the honesty, truth, beauty and sorrow central to human existence. Classical string arrangements are juxtaposed with minimalist ensembles of guitar, piano and ukulele supporting his exceptional, soulful voice. His songs have featured in the animated TV series' `Ghost In The Shell' and `Cowboy Bebop'. He contributed 5 stunning songs to the cult film `Shortbus' (also performing the songs in the film). Several of these songs have been re-arranged and re-recorded for this album. Longtime Listener version includes an exclusive 9 track live bonus disc, recorded at the Bavarian Open Festival, featuring 3 non-LP songs. This live set is unavailable anywhere else in the world! Enchanting, fragile, extraordinarily beautiful, and recommended for fans of Antony & The Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright.

A complete album for fans of his work on "Shortbus"

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I discovered Scott Matthew on the soundtrack to John Cameron Mitchell's movie, "Shortbus." He performs his songs in the movie. His voice is often compared to David Bowie. On his MySpace page, he describes his genre as "anti-folk."

The songs are carefully crafted, with poetic, bittersweet lyrics and spare accoustic instrumentation using guitar and piano, but also including banjo, ukelele, and French horn. Some of his performances have been videotaped and posted on YouTube."
