The Best Fusion Cd in over 10 Years
We No Speak | San Francisco Bay Area | 10/18/2006

Kinesthetics is one of the best Jazz Rock Fusion Cd's in the last 10 years. If you've ever wondered what Jazz Rock Fusion should sound like - this is it!

Scott Kinsey, having played for years with Tribal Tech and being strongly influenced by Joe Zawinul, has created the next phase of Fusion with his first solo release. In a blindfold test, you might even think that Weather Report just came out with a new Cd. His use of multi-textured layers of synth soundscapes is exceptional. Additionally, while he is laying down this lush musical density, his "less is more" style is the key to the tremendous success of this recording. There isn't a single moment that isn't screaming with style and inventiveness. I was captivated from the first note to the last. The music is like a journey into uncharted territory where every turn brings new wonders to behold. You'd have to go all the way back to the early 70's and the masters of the genre to find anything to compare with this.

A perfect mix that combines the virtuosity of Tribal Tech and the compositional creativity of Weather Report makes this Cd an absolute masterpiece. All the players involved are clearly at the top of their game and bring the musical concept of this project to fruition with all the skill you'd expect from some of the best musicians in the world.

Being a studio project, some Fusion fans might miss the stretching, jamming, and improvising. To Scott Kinsey's credit, while many studio projects are technically perfect but lack the spark of spontaneity, this Cd makes you feel you're witness to the capture of musical magic happening right in front of you.

The only weakness I could find with Kinesthetics is that it is not a double Cd. If you could only buy one Cd for a whole year, this has got to be the one. Jazz fans will love it, Fusion fans will love it, Prog fans will love it, and anyone open to creativity and spiritually powerful art in the form of music will love it. Kinesthetics is a powerful statement of the positive side of human nature and a breath of fresh air to the world of music.

I strongly recommend buying this Cd. In fact, I would recommend buying two as a back up in case the dog eats one of them, or Godzilla attacks your Cd collection.

Thank you Scott Kinsey for renewing my faith in the purity of great music and making something that will remain special forever.

I love Weather Report, don't you?

"I think the playing and arrangements are very good. Everyone does a great job. It's just that Scott Kinsey was not born Josef Zawinul! However, in every note and harmony, in every melodiy, he pays homage to Zawinul and his progeny. It's cool. Joe is older and he's not releasing nearly enough of his own music. At least Kinsey and his guys can slow it down. Joe's forgotten how to do that in favor of his Afrocentic hyper-beat stuff.

Scott Kinsey has sooo much going on. I just want him to tap into him... 'Nuff said."
