While the band were not to achieve worldwide commercial success until the beginning of the '80s, they were one of Germany's hardest working and hardest rocking bands throughout the '70s. Their later success was built upon the groundwork laid out by this trio of albums, which remain some of their finest to date. CD ReviewsThree classic titles in one quality package. William Norman | Abilene, TX USA | 06/30/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "This "Original Album Classics" package offers three classic Scorpions titles at a price point much lower than purchasing the titles individually.
"In Trance", "Virgin Killer", and "Taken By Force" each come in a mini-LP style sleeve. These three sleeves fit into a box about the size of a jewel case. "In Trance" features the original album art. "Virgin Killer" and "Taken By Force" each have the alternate covers, not the controversial original covers. Being true to the original LP sleeves, the credit fonts are a bit small when a 12" sleeve is reduced to 5", so get out your magnifying glass! Sony Music did not include a booklet, or updated Linear notes for this repackage. Also, the albums DO NOT include any bonus tracks. One thing that collectors should note is that "The Sails of Charon" on "Taken By Force" is the edited version that runs 4:24, not the original version that runs about a minute longer. The discs themselves are dominated by the "Original Album Classics" artwork, with the album title in a smaller font near the bottom. It would be easy to mix these up at first glance. As far as the music, the mastering on these titles is not loud and compressed, like so many new titles. I could not find mastering credits on the packaging, and the link on the box that is supposed to show full album credits did not include this title as of June 30, 2010. Despite the lack of credits, bonus tracks, and linear notes, I highly recommend this package to any Scorpions fan, or fan of Classic Hard Rock. The discs sound great, and this package is an excellent bargain." |
