Audiences have long loved Schubert's "Reliquie" Sonata as a two-movement torso; Professor Brian Newbould has used Schubert's material for the other two movements to complete the work, adding an unsuspected masterpiece to the great sonatas that crown Schubert's piano career. The other pieces on this CD attest to his close friendship with brothers Anselm & Josef Hüttenbrenner, themselves accomplished composers. Pianist Todd Crow is professor of music at Vassar College. His 1990 CD of Schubert sonatas was a Critic's Choice selection in Fanfare, and Classical Pulse! picked his recital disc for similar recognition in 1997.
