Magical

"This is really an incredible version of an incredible piece of music, plus ohter great pieces. I have yet to hear a piece quite like Scheherazade. It is mystical and colorful, words can't really do it justice. Each movement is supposed to be a fairy tale (if I'm not mistaken), and that is definitely the impression that is given off by this piece of music. The main violin theme takes the listener into a magical fantasy land. The conducting here is done perfectly. Neeme Jarvi takes every subtle detail into account to make this piece sound extrodinary. The next piece, Dubinushka, is a short little russian song that Rimsky-Korsakov transcribed into an orchestral march. Very entertaining. Flight of the Bumblebee is performed the way it really should be, quiet and stacatto, not a noisy cacophany that some conducters have it performed. The two pieces by Kalinnikov are very exciting as well, and I am surprised that they are not performed as often as they are. The digital sound is great, just as good as any DG DDD CD. You will not be dissapointed with this CD."
