Synopsis

Product Description
KastningSiegfried is a modern classical guitar duet, performing their own unique compositions. The compositions on the album, "Scalar Fields," are a set of 20 inter-related compositions for guitar duet. The performances feature Siegfried on acoustic 6-string guitar, and Kevin Kastning on acoustic 6-string guitar, acoustic 12-string guitar, fretless classical guitar, and acoustic extended baritone guitar. The music draws from such diverse influences as Shostakovich's solo piano works, Anton Webern, Morton Feldman, Bartok, and even James Joyce and Jackson Pollock. The music is hauntingly beautiful and draws the listener into KastningSiegfried's sound world. Greydisc Records' 24-bit digitally recording is an incredibly rich, lush, and full recording; fully capturing all the nuances of KastningSiegfried's sound environment. CD Reviews

A mesmerising musical experience
Diane Fischler | San Rafael, CA | 11/14/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Listening to Scalar Fields, Kastning Sigfried's newest CD, is a sonically exquisite experience. The recording quality is superb; crisp and resonant, with the tone of the deep, rich baritone the aural equivalent to the finest quality dark chocolate. The

interplay between the unusual complement of instruments; the nylon stringed fretless classical guitar, the first ever, custom built, extended baritone and the rarely used acoustic 12-string creates an environment of encompassing warmth. The pieces are intricate, medtiative and soothing but certainly not "background" music. This outing is a follow up to the terrific Bichromial, and if anything, surpasses the level of excellence achieved in that recording."
Yet another great peice of work from this duo

"I have been listening to the lilting sounds of Kastning/Seigfried for many years now and prefer it served via headphones whilst sitting in the garden with a glass of red wine, but also, as a painter and illustrator I find it my first choice to play in the background as I tend to my work. While Book of Days remains my all time favourite, Scalar Feilds has a little more colour than previous works. Bichromial seems to come from the depths of the molecular, Scalar Fields, as the title and the cover suggest, luanches itself skyward and beyond. I highly reccomend any of this duo's work to everyone as Kastning/Seigfried never fail to provide an albums worth of relief from the fast paced world we live in"
