"I'm 51 years old and I grew up on Santana. I've listened to this band on 8 tracks, cassettes, reel to reel, and vinyl. I can't imagine what rock and roll or any part of popular music would be without Santana as a part of our musical spectrum. I agree, Abraxas is incredible, and "Everybody's Everything" from III is fantastic. But this disc is where is started. These rhythms lay the foundation for what Santana became and what Santana still is. You can trace the roots of "Supernatural" right back to this disc. It's a keeper. I'll probably have a copy stashed in my bedside stand when they put me in the old folks home."

"Waiting - waiting to take off, goes nowhere.

Evil Woman - a classic, what Santana is known for.

Shades of Time - not a bad song, but not a favorite.

Savor - too much cowbells and organs, sounds like Deep Purple. Were they

using the same organs/keyboards?

Jingo - a classic.

Persuasion - a classic, one of my top 5 Santana favorite songs.

Treat - a nice treat to a latin-rock instrumental.

You Just Dont Care - not bad, but not a classic.

Soul Sacrifice - a classic. The original version.



Overall a great album. As strong a debut as Hendrix's 'Are You Experienced?'.

To be followed by 2 great albums as well. In the 70's & 80's it would go

downhill. Back on top with 'Supernatural'; 'Shaman' isnt as good, but

not bad either.

My other Santana favorite albums: Santana Brothers, Milagro, Zebop!,

Ceremony: remixes&rarities, Festival, Amigos.
