CD Reviews

Worthy first effort

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Siva's "Rhythm of the voices" is an good first recording. She has a beautiful voice and listening to her sing is like lying on a silk sheet. I gave it only 3 stars simply because of the style of music. If you prefer a more sultry jazzy style, check out her next release: "Identity"."
Sparkling debut of a fresh new voice

"Siva came into her own with the 2000 release of "Identity", but in many ways her earlier work, "Rhythm of the Voices", is an equally satisfying listen. All of the "Identity" ingredients are simmering here: production that's generally amazing, hook-filled songs that should have been smooth soul/jazz classics ("This Is So Real" and "Just Wait" are standouts), and a songwriting and performing style that's nearly impossible to peg but almost always thoroughly original. Every track is different -- fresh in its own way. Play the haunting "Angel" loud on a good car stereo. A CD that contemporary radio should have played to death but somehow missed. It's worth seeking out."
