Synopsis

Album Description
The legendary Sam & Dave created some of the greatest hits of the soul era by fusing R&B with the sounds of the Southern gospel church. During their heyday, Sam & Dave were backed by some of the finest musicians in the Memphis scene, including Booker T. Jones (organ), Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass), and Steve Cropper (guitar). Sam & Dave were nicknamed Double Dynamite for their explosive, energetic live shows, and Double Dynamite includes their chartbusting classics "Soul Man" and "Hold On! I?m A Comin?".

CD Reviews

True Stereo!!
J. L. Kaminski | 02/13/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Sam and Dave's follow-up to "Hold on I'm Comin" sees the duo continue to churn out great Memphis soul. Back by the MG's, this album shows how dirty and raw, while at the same time delicate and tender, Sam & Dave could be. The album contains many hits and NO FILLER!

***Please note this edition is in TRUE STEREO, which has not been available since the original vinyl release. The original 1991 Atlantic CD is in MONO. It is amazing to hear the separation in the instruments with rhythm piano, horns and bass in one channel and drums, vocals, and guitar in the other. I personally love Stax stereo because of the lack of "center" mixes, everything has its own place! While the mono is considered more raw (but Sam & Dave WHERE raw), I love the clear stereo mix. I got this so I could retire my original mono vinyl and am more than pleased!***"
