CD ReviewsAmazing 'new' piano music yipyipcoyote | 04/10/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Without Messiaen and Ravel, this music would indeed be totally unimaginable. Right from the very start of the CD - the breath-taking, almost delirious First Sonata - to the very last track 'Anamorfosi' - sort of like a variation of 'Jeux d'eau', the influence of the two French masters is easily discernible. On 'De la nuit', Ravel's masterpiece is scrambled, scattering fragments of 'Ondine' and 'Scarbo' all over the place. The relentless, boldly percussive Fourth Sonata is reminiscent of more frenetic movements of 'Vingt regards'. Of course, his originality lies in the use of modern playing techniques such as palms, fists and elbows (and who knows what else), and Damerini's performance is dazzling. I hope more of Sciarrino's piano works would be recorded and released."
