(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Salteens are a pop band from Vancouver, Canada. Unlike most of Canada's musical exports (ie Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, KD Lang, Alanis Morrisette), The Salteens quite frankly are brilliant. Short-Term Memories is a rather apt title for the band's debut record, as it consists of ten short songs that make you want to listen to them again and again and again. The Salteens on selected tracks also prove that trumpets can be used in a non crappy ska-like way. Picks of the crop include 'Crash The Market', 'Snowstopper', and 'Nice Day'. The perfect summer record for driving down the highway and singing along."
Salteens sweeter than salty

"The Salteens can be considered Sloan's lo-fi sounding distant cousin. Infectious power-pop, The Byrds/Beatles sounding jangle, along with occasional bursts of trumpet, eg, Beulah. The vocals are a more nasal-sounding Jay Ferguson (perhaps Joel Plaskett) with similar Sloan doo-wop style melodies in the background. With a kitschy sweet sound, 'Short Term Memories' might lean a little bit more towards The New Pornographers. The Salteens are basically a nice pop-pick-me-up, not too serious, and all about having a good time."
