CD Reviews

Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, late 60's

(5 out of 5 stars)

"All else is forgotten.

It was a big show with many bands, and most of them billed above the Mushroom, who I'd never heard of. But it's the SM that I recall, even the main act is long forgotten.

The relaxed flowing guitar was equal to what Clapton was doing at the time; no show off crap, just freeflowing creatively melodic work. It's good to find out that the guitarist didn't just fade away."
Five stars for the mushroom live

"I heard these guys at the Aragon,(Chicago) in 60-something, at a show with a bunch of 'local' acts. They stood out. The record is cool, but it doesn't do them justice. These guys sounded like stars, they flowed as easily through their material as any of the major acts of the time, and better than many. The lead guitar was perfect.(update 3.07.2006: Just found out Larry Goshorn from "Pure Prarie League', and numerous sessions, was the guitarist here. Not really surprising . it would have been more surprising if a guy this good -didn't- make it."
Sacred Mushroom - I was there

"I saw Sacred Mushroom in concert. What is even more amazing is they played in concert in Cincinnati as the lead-off band for the Cream. The concert hall was a local church in Hyde Park, that was turned into a youth center to keep us kids off the street. It only held a couple of thousand people, so it went bankrupt right after the concert. We all stood just feet away from the Cream and of course the Sacred Mushroom performing live. Their song "I'm not like everybody else" should have made it much bigger than it did back then. Good news though - there's a new IBM commercial featuring it today. Brought back old memories."
