They have made forays into the international limelight a few times in the past few decades, bringing both the deep devotion and energy of the music and often a few surprises (like the guitars, something that shocked purists audiences in the '70s!). They are never wildly experimental like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan often was, but they nevertheless do push the boundaries of tradition, presenting four long tracks that incorporate bass and saxophone into the basic qawwal formula of ecstatic voices, percussion, and harmonium (a small pump organ that sits on the floor in front of the seated player). CD ReviewsTrue qawwali 01/16/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "The "music fan" who wrote above that the Sabris are copycats of Nusrat is, to put it mildly, an idiot. The Sabris have been singing and moving the masses since the late 60s, when Nusrat (all due respect to him) was a kid. Nusrat himself gave them much respect and recorded their 'Manquta Mawla Ali' as a sign of his love for them. The Sabris' are truly Sufi. I have heard they actually were affiliated with the Chishti order. Everything about their music is sublime, and unlike Nusrat, they didn't stray and start singing secular, Bollywood-aping crap. (None of that was Nusrat's fault - he was surrounded by greedy people trying to make money off him-may God reward him for his sincerity). Anyway, I have this album. I recommend it, like I recommend all Sabri Brother albums, if you are a true lover of qawwali. PEACE." One of the Best Qawalli CDs Ever Saj | D.C. | 11/07/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you're a fan of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, you're in for a treat with Sabri Brothers' best CD ever published. For the uninitiated, it's a daunting task trying to find a good Nusrat CD - since his death, there have been dozens of publications, most of questionable quality. It's difficult to find an authentic, non-bootleg version of classical Qawalli. Sabri Brothers, on the other hand, have only a hand full of recordings. That's good and bad: it's good that you don't have to "try" dozens of CDs to discover the Sabri Brothers. It's bad, because once you've discovered them, you want more. Two of my favorite qawalli's are on this CD: Saquia Aur Pila and Ya Sahib-Ul Jamal. Back to back, more than 40 minutes of ecstasy. I've bought this CD a number of times...I keep wearing them out. I'm glad that this CD is still in print - you must own a copy just for Saquia Aur Pila alone. If you understand Urdu, you'll love the lyrics. If you don't understand Urdu, have an open minded person translate it for you. If you can't find an open minded Urdu to English translator, just enjoy the song for the rhythms, words and a technically superior recording. The Sabri brothers are class acts of their own. To those that do not understand urdu or hindi this album will transport you the state of rapture. However it sure beats listening to Aziz Mian (Ok guys I admit I love Aziz Mian too...and sure would like him to represent me in the court of God)... Anyhoo back to Sabrii Brothers they are incredible and this album is certainly a classic forever as they sing in Balaghal... " yeh jahan sara chamak utta ...".
