Album Description

Runrig have been blending folk, pop and rock with Gaelic and Celtic traditions since 1973. Proterra marks another step forward in the development of a fascinating band which has been one of the most popular and influential groups on the European folk/rock scene for three decades. The result is a magnificent album, on which traditional folk and refreshingly modern pop elements gel into a coherent whole. The band called in Brazil-based Scottish musician Paul Mounsey to help them evolve the concept for Proterra and to produce their 2003 album. 13 tracks. Ridge.

"The latest release from Runrig is very welcome delivering a range of tracks showcasing instrumental skills eg Heading to Arcadia, 'traditional' sounds and lyrics (which are to some considerable degree wasted on an antipodean)and classic Runrig sounds eg The Old Boys, All the Miles. Although it might lack some of the drive and urgency of some earlier releases it is superb early morning (ie now at 1.00am) listening. Whether better or not than previous releases is a matter of preference, it is a welcome addition from a class act."
