Synopsis

Album Description

Scotland's most famous pipe & drum band performs with the accompaniment of the Band of the Coldstream Guards. Features "La Baum," a new compiled arrangement. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards have served in all the major theatres of war during the past two centuries and are a first-class cavalry unit in their own right. The Queen's piper Derek Potter (formerly Pipe major RSDG) sums up the role of the pipes & drums today: "The pipes are an integral part of the regiment, who take huge pride in their music. They are always excited to share this music with the wider world at every opportunity." When not fulfilling military commitments the band tours the world playing at public events and competitions.

"This is a cut down re-release of the 2008 USA tour CD with the band of the Coldstream Guards and pipes & drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The CD has many of the same tracks as the tour CD, but has omitted most of the selections of the Coldstream Guards. Here they serve only as background accompaniment for the pipes & drums who get top billing here. A few new tracks are included, but if you saw the tour and have the CD you probably don't need to buy this one. Those who missed last years tour can get some of that music here. Basically a re-issue of the 2008 USA tour CD with a few extras thrown in. Those who like pipes and combined music should enjoy. Those looking for the Coldstream Guards might be disappointed in their mere support role here."
