"This album contains four symphonies that do not duplicate the works on Arte Nova's excellent Rosetti CD. Both CDs are worth having. Rosetti is a very appealing composer. He does not write big tunes, like Mozart and Haydn. Instead, his symphonies are filled with delightful motifs that he draws out with ingenuity and obvious skill. The orchestrations are particularly winning, light and brisk with a great deal of variation in color. Of all the composers of Rosetti's period, the one he reminds me most of is Boccherini. There is the same lighness of touch and winning lyricism. This is definitely one of the best discs in Chandos's Contemporaries of Mozart series. The symphonies may not be memorable, but they are quite delightful and never outstay their welcome. The playing of the London Mozart Players under Matthias Bamert is exemplary, as always in this series, and the sound engineering is full and very engaging."
