Rosenmueller - a great musician awaiting rediscovery
Henrik Joergensen | Aarhus Denmark | 11/11/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This excellent record provides the un-initiated with a beautiful cross-section of Rosenmüller's production, both instrumental and vocal. Beginning with his Leipzig years and ending with the last publications before his death in 1684 you can hear some ravishing early pieces, like the monumental C-major suite from 1654 or the very simple and moving "Lieber Herre Gott" from 1648, but also pieces of great maturity, like the sonatas from 1682, unsurpassed in their surprising ability to change tracks and confront contrasting passages in a small space. The King's Noyse and Paul O'Dette play this complex music with great insight, and Ellen Hargis lets her lovely voice colour Rosenmueller's song lines in a congenial way."
