CD Reviews

A major sample of a great singer's career
Bruce R. Gilson | Wheaton, MD United States | 07/02/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This collection is one of a number of collections issued by ASV that feature songs by a famous singer of the 1940s or 1950s, named for one of the biggest of the hits of the particular collection. (Others include "Moonlight in Vermont" by Margaret Whiting, "Again" by Vic Damone, and "All My Love" by Patti Page.) It focuses on the period of Rosemary Clooney's career from 1947 to 1952. As a result, it does not include some of her later hits like "Hey There" but does include a number of her biggest hits like "Come On-a-My House" and, of course, the title song of the collection. It also has some relatively minor hits (like "Mixed Emotions," which is actually a favorite of mine, so I'm glad to have it here!) and even includes some songs which were not hits for her (though many of these are also found in aircheck form on her recently released "Rosemary Clooney Show" CD, so they make nice comparison pieces).

Listening to this CD, you can get a real appreciation of how versatile Clooney was in that era. This is an excellent sample of Clooney's work, and highly recommended, though it is restricted to the earliest part of her career."
