CD Reviews

Rarities is a beautiful CD worth buying

"Ron Sexsmith's latest CD is amazing. It consists of songs which did not make it to his 6 other CDs, and a few old favourites rerecorded. The 16 songs on this work of beauty demonstrate once again that Ron is an amazing lyrical poet and makes beautiful melodies. I've heard a few of these songs at Ron's concerts, and was wondering when they would appear on a CD...here they are."We don't know why we're here
...
though the stars look down as if to say
we're too late
in this world where time is everything
we're too late, my darling"Ron is an original songsmith!"
Why spend $30 on an album?

"That is always what I ask myself when shelling out hard earned $ when the "normal" CDs run $10-15.. Here's why

4. You Were There: I heard this track on ZTV (I think thats the name of the station) which is like Canada's progressive answer to MTV. I bought the album because of this one song that haunted me and had me watching this station out of canada way to late at night, hoping to hear it again. The line "you were the first song I ever sung..." kills me. Excellent song and song writing.

9. Words We Never Use: Along the lines of you were there, stong lyrics and haunting. Here you get an bare bones recording that was not used previously.

10. I Don't Like Mondays, just a fun song to sing along with on the way to work...

11. Before We Ever Met

15. Gold in Them Hills Caught myself singing this one yesterday and had to figure out who it was.

Disclaimer: I love Ron Sexsmith's music

"It's always nice when an album is packed with good songs and Ron's albums are always packed with good songs. This one has On a Whim which is lyrical and melodic, Tears behind the Shades with a hint of blues, You Cross My Mind which is a great ballad and Someway, Somehow which, hmmm just a great Ron song. Gold in Them Hills is not my favorite but a lot of people like it. Pop, folk with a hint of blues...that's Ron. He's a nice guy, too, so buy this album and all of his other albums. His words, his music and his voice are a terrific combination."
