Stanlislaw Skrowaczewski made a superb disc of Romeo and Juliet excerpts for Mercury Living Presence which is still available on CD, but this new one includes even more music in the form of the rarely heard Third Suite. The suites themselves do not follow the plot line of the ballet, but were arranged by the composer to make an effective concert presentation. There are small differences also in orchestration and other details, and so they work perfectly well as independent pieces. Skrowacewski's performances are completely inside the style of the music, the orchestra plays superbly, and Denon's sound is audiophile quality. A terrific disc. --David Hurwitz
