Roger Williams At The Top Of His Game In New CD
02/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After listening to Roger Williams' latest CD "Pop Goes The Ivories," I was astounded. At the age of 75, this icon of the ivories is playing with greater precision, ease and speed than in any of his many albums in the past. Sometimes live albums leave a lot to be desired. Not "Pop Goes The Ivories," it is entertaining and electrifying, just as if you were in the audience. What a varied selection, from the A-Train to The Theme From The Titanic! I especially liked GABA which Williams wrote to mimic a political speech.Along with the splendid music is Williams' wonderful humor. This guy is funny!"Pop Goes The Ivories" is arguably one of the finest outings in Williams' long and storied recording career. It is a must have for any fan of good music."
Excellent playing of beautiful music, but too much other

"Roger Williams is, of course, outstanding in his piano playing as always. However, there was way too much talking on this album to the point of distracting from the music. And (speaking personally) too much jazz as opposed to the beautiful love and movie theme type songs which Roger Williams is so justly famous for. I have several of his albums and will buy more, but did not keep this one. The fidelity is fine."
