CD ReviewsGarbage john metcalf | newport. uk | 08/02/2005 (1 out of 5 stars) "it is so refreshing to know that a person with genuine talent and a rare gift for writing great music and lyrics can spend a decade fighting for success, finally achieve deserved recognition, only for some idiot to come along 30 years later and try to make some kind of living off their talent. mind you, how this guy is hoping to get any kind of respect i dont know.he was obviously bored one afternoon and started pressing buttons in some random order on his casio keyboard. The bright idea to try and emulate someone who can actually sing should have have been left in the shower, where it sounds like it was recorded. To make matters worse, the track listing leads you to believe that this man could well be a fan of billy joel. included are cuts like "brenda and eddie" - from scenes from an italian restaurant, "she's got a way" - from 1971's cold spring harbour, and the instrumental "prelude" - from turnstiles, originally recorded in '76.If there are any claims that these awful arrangements put an original spin on the piano mans music, then the re-hashed club arrangements of 10 years ago that have transformed these songs have absolutely nothing original to offer themselves.
I only hope that no other artist has had to endure what this person has done to make a cheap dollar. god forbid that it ever makes it onto the air-waves. Surely even the music business has more sense?? Lets hope so." |
