CD Reviews

Rockin' Vickers - 'The Complete:It's Alright' (Cleopatra)
Mike Reed | USA | 02/12/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Main reason I've giving this CD a four star rating is because of it's historic significance.Imagine that, yet another early band that Hawkwind/Motorhead bass legend,Lemmy was in BEFORE becoming known.Plus another CD release I never even knew about until here very recently.Well, before joining up with Sam Gopal or even Opal Butterfly,Lemmy played guitar in the Rockin' Vickers, which was together as a band for reportedly four years. This CD's first eight cuts are both sides of the Vicker's four 7" singles that actually did get released, between 1964-1965.The remaining six tunes are unreleased songs. Most if not all of the fourteen cuts here are covers.Liked just about every tune, especially the two Kink's covers "Dandy" and "Little Rosy",The Who's "It's Alright",Neil Sedaka's "Go Ape"(reminds me of a summer time surf movie)and Haley's Comet's "Shake Rattle&Roll".Great sound quality.Line-up:Harry Feeney-vocals,Lemmy-guitar,Steven Morris-bass and Cyril Shaw-drums.Should appeal to fans of Herman's Hermits,Dave Clark Five, early Who and The Contours.Very nice innocent old-time rock and roll to be had here."
Beatle-esque

"For fans of mid-sixties music, this album is for you. Many short, snappy tunes. This CD contains some very cool covers including: "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" and "Shake Rattle & Roll".The first seven songs on this CD have been previously released on 45's as a and b sides. the last 7 songs on the CD have never been released.Appearing on this CD, is the Legendary Lemmy from Motorhead. He is billed as Ian Willis (a story accompanies this). You can find his picture in the inside sleeve with his band members. Didn't think he was ever that young."
Brilliant Rarity!!!

"Very rarely do you buy an obscure group's album and have every song be outstanding....however this is one of them. The Rockin Vickers were a highly underrated band from Blackpool.

I won't go on and on about the group or songs.... but I will say that I reccommend this album very highly for anyone who likes british beat, merseybeat or even mod sounds."
