Not the best I Musici Four Seasons - try this one
capezio | Vitoria, ES Brazil | 08/17/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Listening to the samples make easy to know that this is one of the old Four Seansons recorded in ADD by this great ensemble. Personally I suggest that you change your mind buying instead the same recording piece (except the L'estro Armonico), recorded by the same team on digital format. The recording was made far back in 1982 but is much more clear and Pina Carmirelli (the violin soloist) and the crew put's far more blood and tension than this old one. The CD (nª E4100012) is avaiable in Amazon.co.uk for 12,99 Sterling pounds. This is my sincerelly advice."
I Musici Brings back Vivaldi's original vision
capezio | 08/12/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Italian string ensemble I Musici "The Musicians" are a modern and noted group of chamber musicians. They have managed to bring back Vivaldi's original vision of the Four Seasons. One might in a joke say of this very famous work that it Vivaldi called it the Four Seasons because when he wrote them he knew it would be played in the elevators and salons of five star hotels i.e. The 4 Seasons hotel. But in truth, he created a tone poem using the chamber music structure- basso continuo and a string section. It paints vivid imagery of the changing seasons. In winter, we are chilled by the frost and the cold that the strings portray, in the fall we can see the peasants harvesting and the leaves falling in brilliant colors; in the spring we can see how jovially people dance beneath cherry blossoms and picture a rainbow of flowers and sunshine. In the summer movement, we can actually see and hear those pesty swarms of fireflies, feel the intensity of a summer storm and shower. It has Romantic appeal and later on such Romantic composers such as Tchaikovsky would compose"4 Seasons" and previously Haydn had created a similar work, only he used the oratorio and choral form. I Musici does a beautiful job and have grace, elegance and style. Their take on the Baroque is masterful. Pick up a copy today."
