Amazon.com Robert Ward began his music career alongside Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, and Sir Mack Rice. Their funky Ohio band, after launching their solo careers, then evolved into the Ohio Players. Ward's style is bluesier than his cohorts', and laden with such heavy tremolo that it sounds Chinese; fans of Lonnie Mack's style will love this. Fear No Evil, from 1990, is his return to recording and is exuberant. "Something for Nothing" includes a full-on blues horn section, à la Johnny Taylor at Stax; the title track drips with solid soul, its driving rhythm building each verse to a satisfying, swinging chorus. The tremolo tracks--especially "Forgive Me Darling" and "Your Love Is Amazing"--will astound and thrill. CD ReviewsBest Blues CD EVER! Barry Hall | San Marino, CA United States | 12/28/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "One day I walk into a small music store in Agora, California and this CD was playing. I asked the teenage clerk what it was and he replied he didn't know. Evidently, it was a sample sent to the store and the kid just put in on to see what it was. It was the best blues CD I have ever heard in my life. This is a gritty, soul-searching performance by Ward. His guitar is not tuned perfectly, his voice breaks when he tries to hit the high notes, but the result is the most haunting set of tunes I have ever heard. I break this out of my collection of over a thousand CD's at least one a month. Also, I have probably given at least 10 of these CD's to friends who heard it at my house or in my car. (These are copies that I bought -- not made, since I want to support this great artist). If you like Blues then buy this CD. After you listen to it you'll love the blues."
