D. Payne | Llano, CA USA | 09/07/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Excellent Chicago blues-based guitar work, vocals that range from that of a whiskey-burnt blues-man to almost childlike, and entrancing lyrics set Roadman's Hammer apart from anything released in the last 10 years or more- reminiscent of the late 60's and early 70's when bands weren't afraid to have their own unique musical identity.

The songs are powerful and tender, dreamlike and gritty, playful and touching. And, short of Robert Fripp, you won't hear guitar work any better and more varied than Bob Stanley's (and I'd put my money on Stanley in a blues-guitar shootout). The songs range from hard driving blues-rock (Bob calls it "Rockabluesic") in "Baby's Like A Train" & "She Know How To Love Me", and ranges through vaguely medieval, electric lute sounding "Rollin' Home", the dreamy "Changes", to the straight pop of "I Could Say I Love You". The songs on this CD are ever changing and this CD deserves it's own musical category - "Rockabluesic".
