(5 out of 5 stars)

"A lot of the initial reviews were pretty lukewarm, so I wasn't expecting much. But it turns out that Moses on a Snail easily ranks amongst Pollard's best solo albums. Like The Crawling Distance and Robert Pollard is Off to Business, Moses leans heavily toward fully fleshed-out, consistently strong songs. For me, it's Pollard's most addictive release in years -- I can't stop listening to it. Several tracks, particularly "It's a Pleasure Being You" and "Each is Good in His Own Garden" have the bittersweet anthemic quality of GBV's Isolation Drills. Others run the gamut from warm and wistful ("Arrows and Balloons") to rocking and (oddly enough) topical ("It's News"). It's pretty damn impressive that Pollard wrote 10 of the 12 songs in one day, considering good they all are. And a tip of the hat to Todd Tobias, who does his usual great job of producing and playing backing tracks."
