Synopsis

Album Description

De Visée did not compose in the manner of his predecessors Gautier, Dufault, and Gallot, nor even of his contemporaries Couperin and Marais. He creates continuous melodies with simple harmonies. It is quite revealing that his last edition of lute music, Mise en partition (1716), is aimed at other instruments. In this publication De Visée proposes suites for theorbo transcribed for two voices, which can therefore be played by a treble and a bass instrument.

"Absolutely no reservations about this superb disc. Monteilhet is on top form here, with wonderful recording quality to match his fine playing. This is far more enthralling than his previous, relatively dull De Visee disc of a few years ago. As well as his beautiful solo work, he is joined on some pieces by a highly complementary trio of flute, violin and viole. Very well done to all concerned. Top marks."
