Rita Hits

"The songs are arranged as a medley of her hits and run about 1 and 1/2 minutes each. I love the music but the songs are too short and they are not the original version. I would pass on this!"

"It does have the best songs from Rita Lee and I am a fan, but you will be disapointed since these tracks are shorter versions of the full songs"

"Rita Lee is wonderful to those of you who are new to her music.

She has an incredible humor and sarcasm that jump out at you from her lyrics. Unfortunately, you need to have a basic understanding of Portuguese to really get her nuanced meanings. All songs in this record are in Portuguese and there are no words included. So if you are a non-speaker, you won't get much from the lyrics. This is a shame since she is a great lyricist. So learn Portuguese!

For those of you who don't know Portuguese, Rita Lee is one of the world's great rock composers and performers. The closest performers I can come up with for American audiences would be Joan Jett and Pat Benatar. Her songs vary from Guitar Rock to orchestral ballads and everything in between.

However, this collection's songs are short, disco-ized versions of the better original songs. So you don't get the full lyrics, don't hear the original tempo, and miss the varied accompaniments.

Overall, I love Rita Lee's music but not this CD. I believe her best single album was Lanca Perfume, which is unavailable on CD. I wore out my old vinyl LP years ago and can't find another. But, you can get songs from this album on an available greatest hits CD. I recommend that as an introduction to Rita Lee. And to the music executives, I offer the following plea. Please, please, please, release Rita's original works and include both Portuguese words and English translations!"
