CD Reviews

Classic 70s Funk & Disco
Reginald Royster | Bowie, MD USA | 05/23/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Disregard the remarks from the previous reviewer, for he was looking for material by the Rimshots rockabilly band and knows not what he is talking about. The Rimshots were a top notch funk and disco band that started out as the studio band for the All Platinum/Stang record label. All Platinum/Stang was co-owned by Silvia Robinson, who sang "Love Is Strange" as Mickey & Sylvia and later "Pillow Talk" as Sylvia. The Rimshots began doing their own material in the early '70s and released two fine albums: "Soul Train" in 1972, and "Down To Earth" in 1976. This compilation cd contains all tracks from both albums, plus some additional tracks that were never on LP. The Rimshots did sessions behind the Moments, Shirley Goodman on "Shame, Shame, Shame" (as Shirley & Company), and they also backed Etta James on her 1978 album titled "Etta Is Betta Than Evah". A testament to their great sound is that their material has been heavily sampled by hip hop artists over the years. Source: All Music Guide"
