Synopsis

Amazon.com's Best of 1998
Australian Richard Davis is best known as an exponent of a baroque, sophisto pop informed by equal parts Pink Floyd, Robyn Hitchcock, and Nick Drake. Singing in a soft, rather plain tenor, Davis pens quirky, literary lines and places them against softly brushed strings and intricately orchestrated arrangements. What makes Telegraph so special is not just its impeccable pace and feel, but its uncanny ability to transmit bolts of vivid emotion. --S. Duda

"I heard 1 song on Rice Radio and I went out and searched for the CD. I found it, and a gloriously suffused warmth spread through me, something like walking through the woods with the man I loved and the dog I owned 13 years, on a spring day, large billowing cottony clouds overhead, and a promise of life spilling in front of me, rich and introspective thoughts. And I was only nineteen then. I listen to these songs, these lyrics, the guitar, and I am walking there again, in touch with a young woman who still breathes warm, and I smile as I walk on through the trees, it's late afternoon."
