CD Reviews

Decent Album, Clean Version Lots Of "Skips"
Dorrie Wheeler | 02/09/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"You know how the clean version CD's have to skip or blur the explicit words? This CD isn't so wonderful in it's clean version. the intro is so cleaned up they might as well have left it off the album. The album is good but spring for the explicit version.

If you have been listening to recent gossip reports, it's unclear whether or not Remy Ma is still considered the First Lady of hip-hop congolomerate Terror Squad. Despite recent drama, Ms. Remy Ma, the fierce lyricist with the constant blonde streak in her hair has released her much anticipated solo album There's Something About Remy. The album failed to yield a strong single prior to its release but Remy has solidified herself as an icon in the world of female rappers. Her verse in the #1 Terror Squad single "Lean Back" thrust her to the forefront of the industry.

Popular website Allhiphop has coined Remy Ma, "Big Pun's Last Protege." Remy claims it was a coincidence that her album was released on the sixth anniversary of the death of Big Pun. With a decent mix of skits and song , There's Something About Remy is a decent debut from the New York MC. Remy spits really hard on the album, so much so that at times you are left wondering where are the need for toughness comes from. Perhaps because the female MC has to be either real street--or real sexy. Remy blends touch talk with an edge of sexiness and one thing for sure is that she is not suffering from any self esteem issues. She thinks highly of herself and rightfully so, she has released a CD which was worth the delay's. Album highlights include "Whateva," "Thug Love" featuring Big Pun, "What's Going On," featuring Keyshia Cole and the song "Feels So Good" featuring R&B newcomer Ne-Yo.
