CD Reviews

Choke that Piggy!!!
Jason | east coast, USA | 01/23/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The newest RGTE release finds them as brutal as usual, with Rikard spewing as gutteral as ever, Urban as wicked as ever on guitar(and bass on this one), and Jocke hammering the drums like a rabid ape on speed(it's quite fast). This one finds the band re-recording 10 tracks originally recorded on their first cult album Regurgitation of Bright Red Blood, including family favorites such as "testicular trauma" and "fleshmangler", along with 8 brand new tracks, such as the title track "hatefilled vengeance", "666 casualties", which starts off as a great slow doom sludge dirge and then turns into the traditional thrash- grind violence Regurgitate is reknowned for, and also "choke that piggy", featuring the much beloved bloody battery acid gurgle from the throat of Rikard. The album art isn't as fascinating on this one as their last album, but that's not really important, and besides, can the last album's cover art ever be matched? Maybe, but probably only via another Regurgitate/Benscoter collaboration. All in all, another top-notch goregrind release from these Swedish splatter gods, and a definite must-have for all grind freaks!"

"Regurgitate has done quite a turn around. With the relase of "Carniverous Erection" my hopes for a another great grind release were dulled, but with their thrid Relapse release, "Hatefilled Vengence", they have rekindled the grind passion that they have had lost in the past. This infamous grind band, which has been protested by almost every group inmaginagle, armed with both a bludgening riff and tounge, has created some very strong grindcore that will leave a bitter taste in your mouth. With the continuous bashing of their instruments and the raging screams that fill the album, they have constructed a solid album and recreated themselfs. With similarities to grindgods such as Napalm Death, Nasum, and, the newest addition to grind royalty, Burnt By the Sun, they have finally broken there losing streak and have moved on into terrain that they have never been to. With songs like "Choke That Piggy" and, my favorite, "Fleshmangler" you know that they have now gone where they have never gone before. Reguritate has never been an amazing band, their albums have reached an "almost there" type feeling but with this release, I am sure that they are going to have a promising future."
