CD Reviews

What a great voice!

"Recently came across Regine on duet with Paul Anka & vocalist with Norman Brown.

Great voice and whomever helps select her cover songs does great job.

Very successful vocalist in Asia know as "The Songbird of Asia".

My favorite on Low Key is the old Rita Coolidge song Id rather leave while I'm in love. This is a great oldie that seems to have been over looked over the years.

Regine's version of Tell Me That You Love Me, And I Love You So --very good.

Altogether some very good songs sung by a great singer.

Regine has a beautiful voice with exceptional accuracy

"I enjoy hearing female singers with beautiful voices who consistently hit every note perfectly with precision and who sing pleasant, relaxing songs. Regine Velasquez, Mariah Carey, Sandy Patti, and Karen Carpenter top the list. And Regine would tie any of them for 1st place. I also have Regine's "Covers" (2004), "Reign" (2001), "R2K" (1999), and "Love Was Born on Christmas Day" (1996), all of which are extremely enjoyable listening.

I like listening to Regine performing softer toned ballads, and this new "Low Key" (2008) is absolutely perfect in that regard; entirely easy listening -- not even one high-tempo rocker on it (each of her other CD's have a mixture of both fast and slow songs). On "Low Key" you'll hear some familiar songs originally performed by the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney), Dan Fogelberg, Billy Joel, Christopher Cross, Don McLean, Mary MacGregor ("Good Friend" - a beautiful song that hit Billboard # 39 as a single in 1979 and can be found on the soundtrack of the 1979 movie, "Meatballs").

But don't expect to hear copy-cat imitations of those songs -- Regine uses their basic melodies and lyrics and performs her own unique interpretation. Simply listen and enjoy her exceptional voice quality. Or better yet, when you're tired from a busy day, find a comfortable chair, turn down the lights, and play this CD and you'll quickly find yourself in another world.

CD 2, titled "Minus One" is the exact same as CD 1 (all 18 tracks) except Regine's voice is missing, kind of like accompaniment tracks that you can do the singing yourself (lyrics are included in a brochure). Therefore "Minus One" apparently really means "Minus Regine." As an aside note, Regine is a starring role actress in a dozen or so films which are all very enjoyable as well. Highly recommended.
