Synopsis

Product Description
Produced by Ben Wisch, Love and Other Tragedies finds the women of Red Molly adding a little spice to their winning recipe. The new album features a fuller, more polished sound than Red Molly s previous releases, due in part to the contributions of guest artists Mike Weatherly (upright bass), Duke Levine (mandola, lap steel), and Jake Armerding (fiddle). In addition, the ladies incorporated more original songs into the mix this time. Songs written by Laurie, Abbie, and Carolann mingle admirably with songs by well-known contemporary writers Gillian Welch and Susan Werner, up-and-coming writers Amy Speace and George Wirth, traditional American gospel tunes, and standards from the bluegrass and jazz worlds.

CD Reviews

Excellent Roots/Americana Music

"I discovered Red Molly about a year ago, and have been following them around the PA/NJ area since. Their voices and harmonies are every bit as good as the Trio recordings by Dolly, Linda, and Emmylou. Whether they are singing covers, or one of the member's own songs, they are amazing. Abbie Gardner, won the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting contest in the folk category for "The Mind of a Soldier" track 3 on this CD - excellent song! Beaumont Rest Stop is another great song on this disk; I listen to it over and over.

They are fantastic to see in person, they are touring the US in 2009 & 2010, go see them - you won't be disappointed. In case you can't make it to a live performance, listening to them on CD is the next best thing. They have a live CD, "Never Been to Vegas" also available through Amazon sellers.

I have been lucky enough to have attended 4 of Red Molly's concerts (so far - looking forward to more) and they are always engaging and quick with a quip or song to fit the occasion. Red Molly is one of my favorite artists since discovering them. The CD is excellent, and I'm looking forward to new recordings from them, as well as more live shows.

Red Molly's Best Work Yet!!

"We had the honor of hearing and seeing Red Molly (With Beaucoup Blue) at The Sellersville (PA) Theater 1894 on Saturday - (9/19/09) They were terrific! Each member of the trio has such a beautiful instrument (voice), that when they are blended in harmony, it's almost overwhelming!!

Their opening act, the father & son team of Beaucoup Blue, joined them on stage for a couple of numbers, which demonstrated a fantastic creative synergy when the five of them performed together.

While each RM member is also an accomplished stringed instrument musician and songwriter, it was their acapella rendition of Susan Werner's "May I Suggest" (cut 13 on this CD) that brought the house down (and most of us in the audience to tears!). I just keep playing it...over and over... Try listening to it without tears..hard to do - even for a "tough guy" like me!

We already have tickets to see/hear them again over in New Jersey next March!! Whether you like Folk, Bluegrass, Country or any other kind of music, you will enjoy listening to this album."

"This group came to our small town as part of our first folk festival....Through rain and wind, they wowed us and sold out all their CDs....We're all big fans and have been pestering the local arts council to bring 'em back!"
