Highly limited value.

(2 out of 5 stars)

""Snow (Hey Oh)" is the third single from "Stadium Arcadium". One of the strongest songs from the album, Warner Bros. chose to release the single in two parts-- the first with one b-side, the second with two.

The title track itself really is one of the great Chili Peppers pieces-- featuring a delicate, speed picked guitar line and a loping, deeply grooved bassline on the verses and a driven, almost forceful chorus, it also has the pleasure of finding vocalist Anthony Kiedis in his best form, setting up a fine mood and a pretty, delicate melody that stands up on its own with no difficulty.

The b-side for part 1 is a track called "Permutation", recorded live in Montreal. It's the sort of live jam that fills a lot of the Chili Peppers singles-- Flea lays down some nice chordal work over which John Frusciante solos and a couple minutes through, they reverse the trend before both soloing together, twisting about each other. It's a decent enough jam and both Flea and Frusciante play nicely, but quite frankly for the cash I ponied up for the single, I'm kind of annoyed this is all I got.

I can't really give this less than two stars-- "Snow" is a really strong track, but the fact is, this is of limited value. If you need to have it, by all means, get it, but at least know what you're getting."
