A sophisticated program of Late Romantic and Early Modern chamber and vocal music, featuring some of Canada's finest artists. In 1956, Bruno Walter chose contralto Maureen Forrester to sing in his historic performance of Mahler's Second Symphony. After that, she quickly became one of the most successful contraltos of the later 20th century, singing all over the world in opera and oratorio, and making numerous now-classic recordings. The Canadian Chamber Ensemble was founded by Raffi Armenian in 1974 and quickly achieved international recognition through tours of North and South America and Europe. Maestro Armenian, born in Egypt in 1942, immigrated to Canada in 1969.
