Synopsis

Album Description
Raul Midón may be the most compelling "triple threat" to come along in years--a show-stopping guitarist, powerful pop/soul/jazz vocalist, and a remarkable, outspoken songwriting talent. His brilliance in all three areas is on vivid display on his third album, Synthesis, recorded by legendary producer and bassist Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock) with some of L.A.'s finest musicians. The album features eleven new songs, including ten Midón originals and a stunning cover of The Beatles' "Blackbird." Raul Midón--who critics have compared to Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Donny Hathaway--and his twin brother Marco both lost their vision as newborns. Another tragedy befell them at age 4, when their mother died. But their father, an acclaimed Argentinian dancer, instilled in his boys a strong work ethic, and they both achieved extraordinary success. Marco became an electrical engineer for NASA; and Raul, after a successful career as a session singer for such artists as Julio and Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Alejandro Sanz., has emerged as a brilliant singer/songwriter/guitarist. Midón has developed a percussive, flamenco/jazz guitar style that astonishes audiences and a silky smooth tenor, including "a spine-tingling falsetto and an uncanny ability to mimic a trumpet," according to People Magazine. Raul's first two albums brought critical acclaim, appearances on all the major late night T.V. shows in the U.S. and Europe, and multiple world tours. A World Within a World, in 2007, went a long way toward further establishing Midón as an artist "who contributes something lasting to the musical landscape," as NPR said of him. Guitar Player called Midón "one of those rare musical forces that reminds us how strong and deep the connection between man and music can sometimes be." And NY Daily News raves Midón is a "one-of-a-kind guitar and vocal sensation." The band from "Synthesis" includes session vets Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Paulinho Da Costa (percussion), Dean Parks (guitar), and Jamie Muhoberac (keyboards), as well as Klein on bass. The result is an intimate, classic-sounding album that is sure to delight newcomers to Midón's music and those who've been following his remarkable talent for years.

CD Reviews

Great Album! Each song is a Gem!

"I have all of Raul's albums! This is a great album - each song is so well produced and so well written and then of course his performance is exhilirating. He is a great talent albeit underrated in America except by the discerning passionate music lovers who seem to have found him. The album will be in heavy rotation in my house with my family and friends though! I love to turn people onto the music of Raul Midon they are always appreciative and amazed that they didn't know him before! My favorite songs are Bonnies Song and Invisible Chains - of course the cathartic song About You is great too!

Don't miss the opportunity to support this guy by buying this c.d. You won't regret it - also if you can see him live do so! He is amazing solo or backed by an orchestra like on the Marcus Miller record out now also from Monte Carlo.

Anothter Amazing Album by An Amazing Artist!!!

"To be honest, my feeble words will fall short of all that should be said about this brilliant work of art. It is art, and it is brilliant! Raul, in my opinion, is one of the most talented individuals to grace our planet with his gifts. His voice is golden, his guitar playing is creative and energetic, and his songs express masterful musicality as well as poetic and meaningful in-sight. Every album he has created paints a picture of the heart of a man who sees the world more clearly than most, and Synthesis is no exception.

Synthesis is perhaps Raul's most mature and well rounded work to date. Dealing with dark themes and topics, Raul demonstrates that he has experienced the difficulties that life will inevitably bring to each of us. However, he also demonstartes the maturity to find meaning, beauty and truth in these realities. His courage and musical ability are evident from the start with "Don't Be A Silly Man", which is written and performed in the time signature 7/8. Many, if not most, artists do not have the courage or talent to even write or perform in this difficult time signature, much less open an entire album with it! He follows with much of what his fans have come to expect, such as his signature (and amazing, I might add) mouth trumpet solos. Raul surprises us with his exploration and integration of reggae and blues styles. He also surprises us with new themes such as anger and rage. Overall, Raul brings it all together with his consistent message of love and impressive musical ability. All who love music and crave depth should buy and listen to Synthesis!"

"I am so glad that Raul continues to bring it. His albums are all very original. In his live performances he never ceases to impress with his guitar talents. Buy the album. Buy them all. Experience quality creativity. We HAVE to support the good musicians. American radio really needs them."
