CD Reviews

"jazz & blues flavor with an exciting score"
J. Lovins | Missouri-USA | 05/17/2000

"Varese Sarabande presents a Randy Edelman score - "The Whole Nine Yards" with additional tracks featuring Mose Allison, Charles Mingus, Stephanie Biddle and oh yes, Mr. Bruce Willis. Edelman who gave us the score to "Kindergarten Cop" does well on this score, much of it electronic. Tracks twenty-three and twenty-four Edelman creates shades of "Henry Mancini/Pink Panther" cult-sound, which is very welcome and favorable to the score. The entire CD has a presence of Jazz and Blues flavor, with an exciting score to complete the circle of an enjoyable listening pleasure. Last track gives us "They All Laughed" (Ira & George Gershwin) that never goes out of style. Highly recommend this album to film score collectors for - "The Whole Nine Yards"!Total Time: 56:48 on 28 Tracks/ Varese Sarabande - 302 066 114 2 (2000)"
Finally, a CD worthy of the term "soundtrack"
Lee Presson | Colma (City of the Dead), CA | 07/28/2001

"These days CDs that call themselves soundtracks are anything but, leaving out songs from the movie to make room for a bunch of crap that isn't (see my review of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, or for that matter, ANY review of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack). But here, the soundtrack to "The Whole Nine Yards" takes a novel approach: it actually features the music from the movie. ALL of it, right down to the cues that are barely a minute long. My favorites are "They all Laughed" and "That Mellow Saxophone." Also, this CD is worth checking out for anyone who doesn't already know that Bruce Willis is one heck of a harmonica player."

"... And get this cd. This is an outstanding, lively collection of jazz and blues by original artists, including Mingus. Plus very far out original music. There wasn't one track I didn't sit up and listen to. Kudos to Randy Edleman for his great original compositions and his taste in putting the program together. It prompts me to look for more of his stuff. FYI -- Bruce Willis performs some really danceable harmonica on one of the tracks."
