CD Reviews

Wish I was there

"Randy and a crack band play most of the hits from Guess Who and BTO while Randy tells an inside story on each song. The band is tight and the renditions are very good, not quite note for note but close enough that the songs aren't changed at all. The stories are terrific and Randy sounds like he is having a real good time.

The band is really good and a band member who sounds a lot like Burton Cummings sings a couple of his numbers. Everyone who attended the concert in Vancouver left with a terrific musical memory. My only regret is I wish I was there."

"Randy Bachman, has been very busy during this last decade. Here we have Randy and his Band live in Vancouver, British Columbia on 12 April 2002. This is a: "Storyteller" CD that gives you the background about all the songs and how they came to be. This is a mixture of The Greatest Guess Who tunes and all of the Bachman-Turner Overdrive Hits with a Pre-Guess Who Hit: "Shakin' All Over" and a Randy/Neil Young collaboration: "Prairie Town" as bookends to the set.

Randy, has a crack three piece Band behind him and the keyboard player named: Colin Arthur Wiebe does a great job singing Burton Cummings parts on The Guess Who numbers. Most of this is Acoustic, but Randy does plug in his Electric Guitar for a few things on this.

This CD contains 16 songs, and each one was a Hit Single in Canada or The United States. There are short to very long stories concerning all of the performed pieces of music. The stories are fine for the first few plays, but after that I have programmed in just the music and skipped the stories. And that is easy to accomplish, as all the stories are separate tracks from the music, so no stars have been subtracted for that.

With: "These Eyes", "Undone", "Laughing", "No Sugar Tonight", "American Woman", "Four Wheel Drive", "Let It Ride", "No Time", "Takin' Care of Business", "Hey You", "Prairie Town", "Shakin' All Over", "Lookin' Out For Number 1" and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" what is here is Randy's Musicial Life, and this is quite a life to listen to!

Randy Bachman, is a bit older than he was back in 1967, but this Music and with the energy in which he still plays it, has not lost one ounce of steam. Randy is a Rock Legend, and his life of Fantastic Music is told in stories and played to perfection right here on this CD. This is better than a: "Greatest Hits" collection, it's way more fun and you might learn a little something as well.

Four Stars !!!

"Me being canadian, i was able to find this cd in the regular rack without ordering it in from this site, and being a fan of Randy Bachman from The Guess Who, to BTO, to the present, i figured this would be worth a listen. Upon buying it, i still didn't have high expectations when i learned it was a unplugged album (but still have some distortion), but buy the end of the album, i had gained a new respect for all of his music. I was also expecting to be distracted by the storys, but they are just as entertaining as the song. If your a fan of Randy Bachman, buy this now! I never regreted buy this, or the DVD of the same concert, because it is just so amazing."
