CD Reviews

Ramones - 'Mondo Bizarro' (Radioactive)
Mike Reed | USA | 02/05/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Ah!The 12th actual Ramones studio offering.Pretty decent for a band's later day effort.I've never been all THAT huge of a Ramones fan,but I do find them to be a real fun band to say the least. Some of the better cuts include "Cabbies On Crack","The Job That Ate My Brain","I Won't Let It Happen","Poison Heart" and "Heidi Is A Headcase"(aren't most women?).New bassist C.J. fits into this long-running classic punk ensemble very well. Also wanted to mention their cover of the Door's "Take It As It Comes" isn't bad.So many bands out there that it's JUST occured to me that three of these guys have now passed on,Joey,Dee Dee and Johnny.I don't believe I can recall a band that's had three original members dying within a three years time span.Still a great disc to have."
Better than expected

"During the grunge heyday, Mondo Bizarro was a flashback to the early 80's recordings of Subterranean Jungle + Pleasant Dreams. There are Top-40 moments (Poison Heart, Touring) to semi-political Cabbies on Crack, and an unusual cover of The Doors "Take It As It Comes." However, the best of the collection is "Tomorrow She Goes Away" a great song about a love that hs ran its course. The CD has good production, sound quality + an overall nice addition to any CD collection."
Later ramones albums are so underrated!

"prior to buying this album, i had heard almost nothing off of it. i saw the music video for poison heart on youtube, but other than that, the album was a mystery. to me, it is like a combination of brain drain and pleasant dreams. it works greatly, although it isnt as good as either of them, it is still damn fine in its own right.

as for this edition, i think the captain oi re-issue versions of brain drain, mondo bizarro, acid eaters, and adios amigos are the best editions we are going to be seeing for a while. it would be nice if rhno re-issued these(along with animal boy and halfway to sanity) somewhere along the line in much the same way that the first 8 were done. that would be..well..mondo!"
