CD Reviews

The perfect Rammstein CD single
P. Bjel | Richmond Hill, Canada | 11/01/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Rammstein never cease to amaze me. I became a fan some time ago, attracted not only by their smashing and near-addictive music, but also by their uniqueness. Seldom does one find a band that is so original in the work they put out and so realistic in the themes they sing about. I am picky with the bands I hold near and dear (and there are only a select few to which I intently listen), but Rammstein has far exceeded my expectations, especially with their recent 2001 releases, which culminated with their fine album MUTTER, but began with this current single under review, entitled SONNE.This single was released on February 12, 2001, the first tidbit of new material from Rammstein since 1998. This single is absolutely perfect; the songs it has drawn together fit so magnificently; the remixes by the Scandinavian band Clawfinger (tracks 3 and 4) are in themselves amazing, almost like they were separate pieces. They do Rammstein honour in remixing "Sonne," which in several online opinion polls, ranks as one of the most popular songs in recent days by them. Its apocalyptic tone, yet ambiguous meaning makes you imagine vast arrays of imagery; one can only speculate as to what Rammstein just might be pointing toward. Without the words (the instrumental version), the song engrosses the listener even more so, because sole music has no boundaries for an active imagination. A similar line can be drawn with the song "Adios," which seems to be narrating the experience of a desperate (and dependent) drug user. Tracks one and two would later appear on the MUTTER album. The tracklisting is as follows: (1) Sonne (4:32)
(2) Adios (3:48)
(3) Sonne (Clawfinger K. O. Remix) (4:11)
(4) Sonne (Clawfinger T. K. O. Remix) (5:49)
(5) Sonne (Instrumental) (4:31)An amazing prelude to Rammstein's fine album MUTTER; although two more singles were released following its appearance (and one more is supposedly in the making), SONNE definitely tops them all. Absolutely amazing and riveting music; I highly recommend it!"
"Sonne" the New Single From Rammstein

"I've been a Rammstein fan since 1996, and I gotta tell ya, this is the best single Rammstein has put out! It beats "Du Hast" by a land slide. "Sonne" (means "Sun" in German) has hard, and soft guitar rifts that will blow your mind. "Adios" (a song on the single) has hard and fast guitar rifts that will make you go crazy! I'm telling you, this is the single to get, you really don't want to miss out on this! It's too great to say "No" to!"
Here comes the sun

"Yeah, that's what they sing ("Hier kommt die Sonne"). The lyrics aren't very good but the sound is amazing. I don't know the complete "Mutter" album but you might want to consider buying that. This single has "Sonne" and "Adios" which are both on the album, and, contrary to the tracklisting on the back...it has no song titled "Clawfinger". The two tracks that are [seem to be mistakenly] called "Clawfinger" are remixes of "Sonne" by a Scandinavian band named Clawfinger. There's also an instrumental version of "Sonne". So this has no non-album track and is interesting mainly for collectors who like remixes. The next single will be more interesting ("Links 2 3 4"). It has been announced that it will feature "Halleluja", a track that does not appear on the regular versions of "Mutter", but only on expensive special editions..."
