CD Reviews

Pretty decent instrumental disc

"I ended up with this disc by accident. Another online retailer sent me "Ralph Santolla" instead of "Rolf Munkes". And this nitwit did this not once, but twice. So the first time it happened, I decided to go ahead and buy Ralph's disc. It was a decent surprise.Overall, Ralph tends to be more a Michael Schenker-ish player with maybe a pinch of Gary Moore thrown in. He doesn't fall into the shred camp, a la Malmsteen, Bellas or Stump. The tunes on this disc seem to be pretty much mid- to up-tempo rock with good structures. Ralph's tone is also rather Schenker-ish though perhaps at times reminiscent of Joe Satriani's during his "Surfing" days. Ralph's playing is fairly melodic and not really overly flashy. Put another way, it fits his songs well. If you enjoy straight-ahead rock with guitar as the lead voice, you might well enjoy this disc. One other thought, though - it's only about 34 minutes in length."
