"The HBO edition of Grey Gardens has surpassed expectations. The original, mind-bending for its austerity, this version - mind altering in its capturing the complexity and grandeur of the original. Ms. Lange & Ms. Barrymore have absolutely outdone themselves. Ms. Portman's soulful accompaniment to their story is testament to the talents behind this production. The orchestrations, simple, but not, the emotion in the score, true, and heartfelt - the end result, a glorious affirmation of what was, and what can be. I sometimes display a CD (based on artwork, usually) on a shelf reserved for more formal works - Grey Gardens, the CD, has a place in that gallery. Don't be the last on your block - get thee to a CD emporium - now!"
