Synopsis

Product Description
After the break-up of his last band, Taylor Muse hoped to complete an album of collected contributions from his extensive cast of musician friends. Instead, he played nearly everything himself, and ended up with a very personal and visionary endeavor entitled ?Shine Honesty.? According to Taylor, ?while most people would assume it is a reference to Pink Floyd it has more to do with Simon and Garfunkel. I thought about naming it ?Let Your Honesty Shine? which is a line from ?The Only Living Boy In New York?, but somehow I put ?Shine Honesty? together and to me, it sounded more like an album title.? Abandoning, his primary instrument of guitar, Taylor Muse wrote most of ?Shine Honesty? on the piano. Small beginnings, big endings, pop orchestration, and raucous rock and roll all characterize the sound of Quiet Company, while the lyrics reveal the nature of a soul which has wandered, wondered, and ultimately found love. The album title is not to be taken lightly, as the sting of lyrical revelation along the lines of Connor Oberst and Lee Bozeman pours out over choruses of weeping piano and speaker-shredding guitar. By the end of it all, you may be uncomfortably aware of exactly who he loves, who he hates, and how he feels about them all. There are two lines from "Shine Honesty", however, that shed light upon the true nature of Quiet Company?s reason for being. The first, ?I would trade my skin to be young again,? is the indication of lessons learned the hard way, scars and all, and mourning of a lost innocence that can never be regained. The second, ?keep the spring under your step and keep the sunlight on your face," represents the underlying hope, the turn towards the future, and willingness to still smile that propels Taylor head-on into the unknown.

Quite a CD from Quiet Company
R. Haynes | Longview, TX United States | 05/11/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you like good, quality, meaningful music then you should buy this cd now. Every song is great, but my favorites are Tie Your Monster Down and Then Came a Sudden Validation."
The Most Beautiful Voice

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Taylor Muse has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. The piano and guitar are very uplifting and I have never heard human emotions expressed so eloquently through music as in the songs on Shine Honesty. Quiet Company is a talented new band with a style that appeals to a very broad audience."
Shine Honestly

""Shine Honestly" features 12 fresh and compelling numbers, A first indie

label release for Quiet Company, as far as I know. Singer Songwriter Taylor Muse

is at the helm of this folky outfit, this album is covered with inward-gazing

pop songs and soulful lyrics. This here is an album with an, unforeseen depth and

many delightful hidden layers. The more I listen to it the more I get into it.

"...Then Came A Sudden Validation" is the first song that I really held onto. Led

by a groovy piano this one has a really nice classic rock vibe to it. I really love the

arrangements on this number as I do on most of the following tracks. "Well Behaved

Women Rarely Make History" is probably the first song that made me stand up and

really recognize how good these guys really are. The song has great pop sensibility.

Great catchy lyrics, good solid piano and drums guiding the song along. "Circumstance"

is an upbeat rocker that in my opinion really feels out of place along side the rest of the

album. But this one is really the only track I can complain about, which isn't bad at all.

I don't know how they keep doing it. But Northern Records keeps on finding promising

talented artists.

Quiet Company has fine list of influences like The Beatles, The Smashing Pumpkins,

Luxury, Neil Young, Starflyer 59, The Smiths, Radiohead, Beach Boys, ..etc. At times

almost outshining their role models. It's a difficult album to dislike. I love

listening to music like this. Where the more you listen to it the more it reveals

itself to you.

Some of you out there are currently missing out on something that would make your

musical life make a lot more sense, but have no fear as long as you're looking,

Quiet Company will probably keep making albums like this one.
